You Have Permission To Rest

Yes, that is correct you have permission to rest.

If I get tagged in one more see 10, do 10, give 10 push-up challenges I am shutting down my Instagram… LOL just kidding, but seriously please stop. With everybody streaming their workouts online it is much more common for people to be sharing their movement. This constant newsfeed full of other people’s workout is a trap for comparison. Looking at other people’s social media accounts and seeing what they are doing can exacerbate feelings of “I am not doing enough”. Please hear me when I say that you have full permission to rest, whatever that means for you.

  • You have permission to take a nap.
  • You have permission to lay on the couch.
  • You have permission to binge watch a Netflix show
  • You have permission to sit outside and soak up the sun

Is movement that feels good important for your health? Absolutely, so forcing movement that does not feel good emotionally or physically is not going to benefit you especially if you are struggling from a mental health standpoint. We are all going through trauma together right now that we have never gone through before. It’s okay to feel okay one day, and the next day feel completely depressed, sad, and out of control. We are all doing the best we can with the resources that we currently have.

Working from home and being an entrepreneur, I personally struggle with allowing myself to rest. I am always in my office and there’s no such thing as clocking out or turning off. there is always something that I can be doing and always something that I can be working on. Currently, I am working with my therapist on setting boundaries and scheduling and rest as if it is a meeting with a client that I wouldn’t miss.  It can be 10 minutes of breathing exercises & sitting outside to let the sunshine hit my skin, walking out my front door I’m going for a 5 minute walk to stretch my legs, or taking a 20-minute nap to allow my brain to fully shut down so I can be more efficient and focused when I pick back up with work.  I am learning that rest looks different for everyone. I’ve always known and preached that rest is just as important as activity but I’m learning now more than ever how true this really is. Even if you are not partaking in physical activity you can still be emotionally exhausted. You have permission to rest.

Do you struggle with rest? Do you struggle with seeing boundaries? Even though rest and food are two separate topics there are a lot of parallels that exist.
